Taught by Om Yoga Awards Winner 2024 🏆
I’m Zahir Akram, and I love what I do. And the deeper you go into your teaching, the more you’ll feel that.
This course shares everything I’ve learned in over 20 years about how the human body actually works — not in theory, but in practice. My approach blends anatomy with movement science and storytelling. It's not about teaching a list of muscles. It’s about helping you see yoga poses through a new lens — so you can teach with clarity, confidence, and a deeper respect for how bodies really move.
In 2024, our studio was named Om Yoga’s Studio of the Year, and I was honoured to receive the Favourite Teacher award. But what matters most to me is how many of our graduates go on to teach classes that truly serve their students — not with flashy cues, but with grounded understanding.
So before you cue another Downward Dog, pause and ask:
Do I really understand what I’m asking my students to feel — and is it even safe?

What You’ll Learn
🔹 What Really Happens to the Body in Yin Yoga?
Yin isn’t just about stretch and surrender. When we hold poses for longer durations, something far more layered is happening — deep within the fascia, joints, and nervous system. This course explores what’s really going on beneath the surface and helps you understand how stillness shapes the body, not just the pose.
🔹 Who Is Yin Yoga Really For?
Not every body needs long holds. You’ll learn which populations benefit most from Yin — and when a different approach may be safer or more effective.
We unpack the myths around accessibility and healing, and explore how Yin can be adapted for real people in real classes.
Also - what the is the difference between Yin and Restorative Yoga?

🔹 Breathing, Safety & the Myth of Stillness
Is stillness healing in itself, or is something more required?
We look at the role of breath, nervous system tone, and co-regulation. What does mindful breathing actually mean to the average student? Can they truly find calm on their own — or do they need to be guided there? These are questions you’ll not just ask, but begin to answer through this training.
🔹 From Insight to Teaching — Your Yin Toolkit
You’ll receive my full 90-minute Yin sequence and ready-made class plans so you can start teaching straight away. But more than that, you’ll gain a felt understanding of why Yin — when practiced with presence and wisdom — is the purest form of yoga. It brings us back to the source. It softens the performance. And it asks us to finally listen.

Do you know how to use props in a way that supports the Nervous System?
Who This CPD Is For?
This training is for yoga teachers who want to go beyond stillness as a concept — and actually understand what’s happening inside the body when we hold.
You don’t need to be a scientist. Just curious enough to ask deeper questions.
Maybe you’ve been teaching long holds without knowing what they really do...
Maybe you’ve sensed that “stillness heals” isn’t always true — at least, not for everyone.
Or maybe you’ve felt your own relationship to Yin shifting — and want to teach it with clarity instead of cliché.
You might be:
-
A yoga teacher who wants to ground Yin in real physiology and fascia research
-
A PT, coach or therapist looking to integrate nervous system understanding into stillness-based practices
-
Someone returning from burnout or injury — and needing a softer, slower framework
-
Or simply someone who wants to offer Yin with more intention, care, and anatomical honesty
Wherever you are in your teaching, this CPD brings insight — not illusion.

What is the difference between Yin & Restorative Yoga? When does it matter?
Student Stories
🌀 “This changed how I see stillness”
“I used to think Yin was just about holding poses. But this CPD helped me realise how much is actually happening inside the body — to the breath, the tissues, the nervous system. I feel more informed, more aware, and more capable of holding space for my students instead of just timing them.”

🌬 “It made me rethink everything I was cueing”
“I’d always taught Yin from a place of intuition, but this training gave me the anatomy and physiology to back it up. I finally understand what long holds are doing, what mindful breathing actually means, and when to offer support — not just silence. It’s made my teaching safer and more intentional.”
— Daniel F., Yin & Hatha Teacher

🔍 “Stillness isn’t enough — and now I know why”
“This course made me question a lot of what I’d been told. I used to think that just doing the shapes would be healing — but now I know how the breath, the nervous system, and even trauma patterns play a part. It’s deep, intelligent, and grounded in real science. Highly recommend.”

About Me
👤 Meet your teacher - Zahir Akram
Hi, I’m Zahir. I’ve been teaching yoga since before Instagram knew what a Downward Dog was.
Over the years, I’ve taught in gyms, retreats, and packed studios. But what I really teach — is how to think. How to ask better questions. How to become a teacher that’s both human and precise.
In 2024, I was honoured to be named Favourite Yoga Teacher by Om Yoga Magazine. Our studio — Akram Yoga — was also voted Yoga Studio of the Year.
If you’re looking for someone who’ll teach you with humour, honesty, and real depth — not dogma — I think we’ll get on.
I absolutely LOVE what I do. That will be evident more and more as you make your way around the website, my BLOG page and even our Youtube Channel.
You really couldn't be in safer hands 🙏🏽

"These courses are truly a lifetime’s work, and I'm so grateful to have a platform to share everything I've learned over the years with you. My goal is for you to walk away feeling more confident in your understanding—not only so you can teach with assurance but also to empower you to be yourself and to question conventional yoga wisdom. Too often, this wisdom, even with the best intentions, causes more harm than good. I hope you can use what I teach to continue sharing the magic, helping others evolve and heal, just as yoga has done for me—and for you."
ZAHIR AKRAM
I’ve dedicated half my life to understanding what makes us who and what we are. My studies have taken me from anatomy to philosophy—from the Greeks, who first dissected the human body, to the yogis who say we are not the body. This journey has led me from my parents' birthplace in Kashmir, to the bustling streets of Calcutta, and the serene landscapes of Nepal. I’ve broken down and dissected everything, from the mechanics of breathing to the intricacies of Bandhas.
I’ve had a complex relationship with yoga. I’ve loved it, critiqued it, fallen out of love with it, had enough of it—and yet, I keep coming back. My understanding of yoga isn’t just a collection of other people’s words or theories. It’s a tapestry woven from my own experiences, filled with moments of doubt, rediscovery, and personal growth.
Yoga has given me the strength to forge my own path, and that’s exactly what I hope to share with you. As the Sufis say, “In a conflict between the heart and the brain, follow your heart.” This course isn’t about rigid rules or seeking absolute truths. It’s about finding what feels true and right for you, with a heart-centered approach to learning.
