"I went in knowing nothing about the lumbar spine. I came out with a clear framework for every back pain student I'll ever teach."
- Michelle, Yoga Therapist

Dear Yogi
Most people who walk into a yoga class today are hoping for relief from lower back pain. Surveys consistently show that back discomfort is one of the top reasons adults begin yoga. Often up to 60% of new students arrive with this exact goal.
That hope is completely understandable.
Yet the uncomfortable truth is that even the kindest, most well-meaning teachers can unintentionally make things worse. Common instructions and modifications that sound helpful are still taught widely, even though many of them place vulnerable spines under strain or prevent the natural movement patterns the body needs for healing.
When 50–60% of your students may already be in pain before they step on the mat, the responsibility is enormous.

Having suffered with my own lower back, i've studied and trained clients for the past 25 years.

Spine Anatomy is not complicated when it's looked at for what it is, and NOT what we want it to be.
Having suffered with my own lower back, I have spent the past 25 years studying anatomy, movement, and yoga practice. I have seen outdated instruction cause setbacks and I have witnessed the relief and gratitude when teachers replace them with clear, safe, anatomy-respecting alternatives.
That is exactly what this short 7-video mini-course is designed to deliver.

MORE ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
I’m Zahir - dad, husband, yoga teacher, and forever seeker.
Om Yoga Magazine - Yoga Teacher of the Year 2024

I’ve dedicated half my life to understanding what makes us who - and what - we are.
My studies have taken me from anatomy to philosophy - from the ancient Greeks, who first dissected the human body, to the yogis who remind us that we are not the body at all. That journey has carried me from my parents’ birthplace in Kashmir, through the bustling streets of Calcutta, to the quiet, expansive landscapes of Nepal.
Along the way, I’ve broken things down (quite literally) from the mechanics of breathing to the complex, often misunderstood nature of the human skeleton.
I’ve studied anatomy and movement for over 25 years, working as a Personal Trainer throughout that time. My education includes the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the London School of Osteopathy, and years of experience as a senior yoga teacher, studio owner, and exercise physiologist.
What drives my work is translating complicated science into something practical and usable. You’ll see that reflected in my teaching, and in my Instagram and YouTube content, where anatomy is explored through movement rather than memorisation.
My aim is simple: to help you understand anatomy in a way that gives you clarity, confidence, and trust in your own teaching - so you’re no longer guessing, copying cues, or doubting yourself in front of students.
That is my promise to you.
