BEGINNERS YOGA & MEDITATION
15000 years ago, the first yogi Shiva taught his wife the secrets of Yoga. The yoga at that time was not the postural yoga we know now. The yoga Shiva revealed was a way to transcend existence.
This was done by wholeheartedly committing to various exercises in concentration. These exercises, or methods involve breath awareness, visualisation and contemplation. These methods are essentially meditation. We close our eyes and aim to achieve a feeling of bliss and harmony.
I have spoken about this conversation between Shiva and his glorious consort in my book - 'Yoga, Madness or Meditation?'
These exercises in concentration demand that the practitioner 'be present'. Shiva's only prerequisite was that the aspirant be "willing". Nothing else is required. You are not expected to have perfect posture or adopt any type of hand gesture or 'mudra'.
If you embrace the methods (or exercises in concentration) that we will attempt over the 4-weeks, then you can in theory become 'meditative'. This will improve the health of your brain, reduce stress, control anxiety, enhance self-awareness, improve sleep, decrease blood pressure and overall, enhance the quality of your life.
Alongside these traditional breathing exercises, Zahir will introduce you to fundamental yoga poses. Accessible for all ability levels.
